The 2023 Auckland to Fiji Race has been cancelled. The Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC) announced the cancellation on their website on May 18, 2023. The race was scheduled to start on June 3, 2023.
In a statement on their website, RAYC said that the cancellation was due to a number of factors, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic climate.
“We are very disappointed to have to cancel the 2023 Auckland to Fiji Race,” said RAYC Commodore, David Morgan. “This is a hugely popular event and we know that many people were looking forward to taking part. However, we have to make the difficult decision to cancel the race in the best interests of all involved.”
The 2023 Auckland to Fiji Race was the biennial race between Auckland and Fiji, organized by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club. The race was a Category 1 offshore race, with a distance of 1,100 nautical miles.
