In previous times traditional sailing canoes were important in most of the island groups of the tropical Pacific.

During the 20th century however, much of the traditional sailing heritage has been lost and sailing craft are now only common in a handful of locations, such as the Gilbert Group, outer islands of Tuvalu, and in the Western Caroline Islands.

Savusavu Treasures – Fiji Pearls

Fiji Pearls

As you cruise into Nakama Creek, you may notice lines of buoys and ropes along with several floating barges nestled in the harbour.

While from the surface, it doesn’t look like much; below the surface, thousands of stunning pearls are growing happily in their oyster shells. The product of a labour of one mans love of the ocean.

The Pearl Resort

Pacific Harbour lies along the south coast of Viti Levu, opposite Beqa Island. At the mouth of the Qaranaqio River, you will find The Pearl South Pacific Resort and Spa.
