Spectators of the fastest and wildest America’s Cup watched in awe as Oracle Team USA flew to victory winning Race 19 by only 44 seconds!

At the start of the day, Emirates Team New Zealand and Oracle were tied at 8-all on the scoreboard and the final race was to be a winner-takes-all event.More info here…

30th Annual Pacific Harbour International Game Fishing Tournament – Hailed a success!

Under the watchful eyes of IGFA representatives Harvey Probert and Albert Threadingham, anglers mingled with spectators over the course of the weekend as walu, wahoo, mahimahi and more were weighed and recorded for the 30th Pacific Harbour International Game Fishing Club’s Annual Tournament.

Sponsored and hosted by the Pearl South Pacific Resort in Pacific Harbour, Club chairman and tournament organiser Mark Spurling said of the event, “We are grateful to the Pearl Resort for sponsoring and hosting our 30th  Annual Game Fishing Tournament – it has been a great success with 8 participating boats and more than 60 anglers. Pacific Harbour has proven itself time and time again as having some of the best game fishing grounds in Fiji and this years event was no exception!”More info here…

A Great Boost for Fiji’s Yachting Industry

June 10th saw the arrival of the Oyster World Rally into the Lau Group from Tonga.

The rally, exclusive to owners of Oyster brand yachts, set off from Antigua in January this year and after clearing into Lau, sailed on to Savusavu, Port Denarau and Musket Cove before heading to Vanuatu on their way back home. As we wave them off into the sunset, we reflect on a wonderful month for our country and a tremendous boost to our yachting industry. More info here…

Important Changes to Inward Bound Customs Documentation For Yachts & Small Craft

Our hardworking friends at Fiji Islands Customs & Revenue (FRCA) have just released a new ‘Advance Notification/Inward Report for Yachts/Small Craft’ document (C2C Form) for inward bound yachts and small craft which replaces both the old “Advance Notice of Arrival”, and the “Inward Report” forms. More info here…

LEVUKA LISTED AS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Levuka is a historical town on the eastern coast of the island of Ovalau. Formerly the Capital of Fiji, Levuka has just been listed as the country’s first World Heritage Site!

The news was welcomed on behalf of the Fiji Government, and described as “historic” and “a wonderful day for Fiji” by the Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture and Art’s, Filipe Bole, and the Attorney General and Minister for Tourism, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. Both Ministers said the declaration was a landmark day for not only the people of Levuka but also the entire nation.More info here…

Mariners Beware: Heavy Swells To Coincide With Spring Tides This Weekend

Our friends at Nadraki have kindly given FijiMarinas.com the heads-up for heavy swells due to coincide with spring tides over the coming weekend (June 22nd & 23rd).

Indications are that Fiji could see swells of up to 3.5 to 4.5 metres in amplitude (7 to 9 metres crest to trough) over the coming weekend commencing later Saturday and peaking Sunday night. More info here…

There is yet another great excuse for cruising on in to our Nations Capital and paying a visit to Fiji’s oldest Yacht Club – The Royal Suva Yacht Club! In celebration of Fiji’s live music scene, close to 40 of our most respected and seasoned musicians will reconnect from all over the world to perform on Saturday the 22nd June at 7pm for a night to be remembered!

This historic event showcases the crème de la crème of Fiji’s performing artists of the 60s, 70s and 80s, joining together to commemorate the country’s live music history.More info here…
